230 kV Lattice Tower Reconductoring (26 Miles)
Client: Reconductoring & Upgrades
Project Overview
Delivered engineering design for a 26-mile 230 kV line reconductoring project on existing lattice steel construction, upgrading to high-capacity ACSS conductors.
Scope included:
- Full tower structural analysis for upgraded conductor loading
- Tower member and leg modifications to accommodate new loads
- Mid-span double-circuit pole additions in double-circuit sections
- Tension reductions via inline dead-end structures to preserve angle dead-end lattice towers
- Damaged tower member analysis and replacement (farming equipment damage)
- Bifurcated single-circuit and double-circuit tower section modifications
- Construction support including constructability assistance
- Temporary design accommodations to match contractor capabilities and equipment
The project demonstrated that significant capacity upgrades can be achieved on aging lattice infrastructure through targeted structural modifications rather than full replacement.
